Original Doll
Mold Company

Some days, with all the crazy and unfortunate things happening around the world, I think how trivial what I do is, and in the grand scheme I guess it is. But over the years I have heard from fellow doll makers who have told me how making dolls was often the only thing that got them through truly tough times. And if you make dolls you know how easily one can lose themselves in the tasks of sculpting or painting or figuring a new bead pattern, which is a good thing. We need a break from our busy schedules and worrying news casts that blast the airwaves or whatever ails us…to simply feed our souls. There have been occasions when keeping my hands busy would quiet the worries of my mind, like if my aging dad will be able to keep his precious memories or if a family member will find another job, or whether they will soon find an answer to the tragic devastation in our beautiful Gulf of Mexico. So yeah, doll making is sort of trivial but I say sometimes following a trivial pursuit is necessary.
